Back in the 90s, a North Jersey band called Redemption played covers at the local bars. When their bass player needed to take a break for health reasons, the other members of the band decided to write and record some original music. No Place to Go started there with Mike Mannino writing the music and Rob Karp, the lyrics. When Rob shared this batch of songs with The Innocent Bystanders, Steve S thought this one had potential but seemed unfinished. Rob graciously allowed Steve to add a bridge and a couple of verses to complete the story of man working through a roller coaster year of joy and sorrow. When we decided that Kath would sing it, it became something else entirely. At an early practice, she started repeating the title line over and over at the end of the song, reminding Steve S of Backstreets, the famous Springsteen song in which he repeats the title multiple times at the end. So, Steve S took elements from that song – the building introduction, changing lyric elements in the chorus, a key change verse into a guitar solo in the original key modeled on the Backstreets solo – and used them for the final arrangement of No Place to Go.
lyrics
We rented a house in December
And Moved in Before the Snow
Here I am 6 months later, I got no place to go
The landlord said take it easy.
The pain is bad I know
I Packed up my belongings, and turned away real slow
There’s a picture frame turned face down, and feelings you’ll never know
But no matter where I lay my head, I got no place to go
Tonight is like the others
I spend a lot of time alone
A half empty glass on the table, I got no place to go
I walk thru the heat of the summer
the night winds come so slow
The sun just burns my shoulders, but my chest feels so cold.
There’s a picture frame turned face down, and a note written long ago
But no matter where I lay my head, I got no place to go
In the early morning sun, and I felt the sweep of your hair
The little things I remember, the things that aren’t there
I’ve played that song for hours, and the night’s still young, I know
As each day grows shorter, I’ve got no place to go
So, the moral of this story Is man you never know
Longing for a memory that just won’t let me go
There’s a picture frame turned face down
And feelings you don’t want to know
But no matter where I lay my head, I got no place to go
I got no place, I got no place, I got no place to go.
I got no place, I got no place, I got no place to go.
I got no place, I got no place, I got no place to go.
I got no place, I got no place, I got no place to go.

Jackie Wilson, the sax player from Buck-O-Nine, Wild-&-Innocent era Bruce Springsteen, and Grace Slick start a golf round as a foursome. At the turn, Phil Spector asks to play through and things get outta hand.
Slugger breakup record to top all breakup records. "You only say you love me when your lonely." And "I love the way she left me It reminds me I'm not always supposed to be happy." Wow! The Innocent Bystanders
